Still have niggling pain that wont go away?
Hey,
You did everything right. The scan came back clear. You did the physio/osteo/chiro did the rehab, did the exercises. You were told it should have healed by now.
And it still hurts.
I know that place well. I played contact sport for a decade, and I’ve rehabbed my own injuries. Since then I’ve treated everything from brain injuries to fractures, torn ligaments and chronic low back pain.
Similar pattern keeps showing up. When pain lingers well past normal healing time, it’s rarely only about the injured tissue. It’s about whether your body has what it needs to rebuild.
A few things I see missed over and over:
Sleep. A run of bad nights can turn the volume up on pain you already have. The research suggests a bad night predicts a painful day better than the other way around.
Fuel. Injury can raise your energy needs by 15 to 50%, yet most people quietly eat less when they’re hurt and training less.
Iron and vitamin C. Your tendons, ligaments and bone are built from collagen, and your body can’t make it without them.
Blood sugar. If you’ve got a tendon that won’t settle, this is the one almost nobody connects. People with diabetes are more than three and a half times as likely to have tendinopathy, and you don’t need diabetes for blood sugar swings to matter.
I wrote it all up, including the five bloods worth asking your GP for when pain won’t settle, and a simple list of what to do this week.
Read: Rehab matters. Your body also needs the building blocks to rebuild itself.
Keep doing your rehab. None of this replaces it. It just can’t do its job without the building blocks.
